Interior design has long been a past time that has interested homeowners, business owners and television viewers all over the world. Businesses have used interior designers to ensure the company image is well portrayed. This could be to design hotel rooms, shops, office complex, reception areas, restaurants and eateries, gyms And other areas the public will see.
Home interior design has long been important in society. From bygone eras to modern day we have insisted on having beautiful homes that are both functional and stunning to behold. Georgian, Victorian, Elizabethian, modernist, functional, minimalist, brutalist etc etc. The styles are countless and incredibly varied.
As the years go by styles change. Things that were dated in the 80s became popular in the 90s. Things that were dated in the 90s became popular after the turn of the century. Now in 2021 we are having a resurgence of 60s culture and styles that were long gone are back and are as popular as ever.
That is the key to interior design. You need to understand that styles are cyclical. Things come around again. What is dated today is retro chic tomorrow.
Currently it is particularly on trend to incorporate 60s styles into your design. Printed patterned wallpapers, angular mirrors, browns and yellows as a colour scheme, highly patterned tiles and and dark wooden furniture are all becoming more and more popular.
It is always difficult to know what will be the next big trend. You can often, however, go by the pop culture styles. TV programmes such as stranger things and movies such as Captain Marvel are re-popularising 80s culture and styles. These pop culture moments can often a sign of things to come.
But home styles and corporate styles differ massively. These quirky 60s and 80s styles are not transferring over to the business world quickly. It is still chic and clean lines that are called for in the corporate world. The corporate world is not the only part of the business world that has style. Small businesses such as cafés, hairdressers, eateries, restaurants and independent retailers can still join in the main stream trend.

You will find tearooms and sandwich bars with 60s styles, patterned plates and teapots, highly patterned tiled floors and wallpapers. It is good to see and these homely feeling styles really suit small independent businesses. But the big question is will 80s styles be next?
That question is about home and corporate interior design. We do not know what will be on trend in 2022 and beyond. My guess is that 80s styles will be big next and that minimalist styles will return after in 5 to 10 years.
